Is someone watching me through my computer?
Question:
So I was playing my computer and it said malware detected and then I noticed that a red dot was in my camera as if someone was watching me. Is it possible that someone hacked into my computer or do all laptops have that red dot?
Answer:
While it is possible, it is unlikely.
I know that my computer is clean, and I have the red dot in my webcam as well as on my phone’s camera. If your webcam has an indicator light and it is not on, there is an even tinier chance that your computer is watching you.
To the note of “someone” hacking your computer, these things are often done through bots or self activating viruses. There is an EVEN SMALLER chance that an individual person has selected you to be a target to watch all the time through your webcam. If your computer said malware detected, there is a good chance that it has already quarantined or deleted the offending programs. One way to find out was ask these questions.
Was your internet ever slow?
Did you computer ever overheat?
Between what day did the malware was discovered and when you got it. If it was discovered within a day most likely you weren’t watched. as only a very good programmer could do that if you have anti-malware.
